Sony Reader Daily Edition - PRS 900BC

I just received my Sony Reader Daily Edition - PRS 900BC.

I just finished reading a 320 page PDF document and I am currently reading a 334 Page ePub document.  I live in Australia.  Sony does not currently sell the Sony Reader Daily Edition - PRS 900BC in Australia.   I was able to tether the read via USB to my computer and shop online with no problem.  I did use a US credit card and address.

Pros:

  • I wouldn't be able to read a 300+ page document using a backlit device.  I would have gone blind.
  • The battery life is incredible.  I read the 300+ page PDF and the battery meter still showed a full charge.
  • I bought the Sony Read instead of the Amazon Kindle because the Sony Reader renders PDF natively.  The Amazon Kindle renders PDFs as a image.  You can change the font with the Sony Reader to see a bigger text.  You would need to zoom in to see a bigger texxt in the Amazon Kindle.  I think it would be impracticle to use zoom to read a PDF novel.

Cons:

  • The first thing you need to do when you get your reader is to put the battery in the reader by removing the back panel.  Unfortunately, I can't seam to get the back panel back on correctly no matter how hard I try.

  • I bought the Sony Reader cover with Light.  The flexible arm is difficult to manuver into a position that does not cause glare.

  • I have given up on using the touch screen hand gesture to change page.  It was too flaky.  I use the buttons to change page.

  • It was too slow to change page on a PDF document.  It took about 2-3 seconds.
  • If you do not use the native font of a PDF document, the layout on the page is all screwed up.
